Butt Pains

I know I haven't been on here much to update.  Well, you've seen my schedule!  Things have been chugging along, same old same old, day in day out.  The only reason I'm able to post this morning is because I tripped while carrying Finlay yesterday and sprained my ankle.  The fall also did something to my back, so I can't exercise at all.  Heck, it just hurts to move.  So, I think a few days off is in order.  The thing is, the morning exercise routine has been really keeping my migraines away, so fingers crossed one of those don't creep up on me.  I'm doing everything I can to prevent a migraine attack these days, because I simply cannot afford to spend half a day in bed drugged up.

We've had a few mishaps with the treatment lately.  A couple of weeks ago one evening, Adam was reading and I was checking emails.  He said to me, "What's that squishing sound?", but I was on Facebook so I kind of blew him off and said, "I'm sure it's nothing".  A few minutes later he says, "Um, I'm bleeding".  There was blood all over his lap, chair and floor.  One of his tubing connectors had come loose, and when his pump switched on it was sucking blood out instead of pumping medicine in!  I freaked out, but pulled myself together in time to figure out what was going on.  We had to stop his infusion, change the tubing (a pain in the butt) and start all over again.

The next night, at some time in the wee hours of the morning, Adam suddenly sits up and says, "I think I'm gonna be sick".  I got up, and I was shuffling around the bedroom trying to figure out why I was up when suddenly Adam empties his stomach all over the bed and floor.  At night, Adam is plugged into the wall to recharge his pump, so he couldn't run to the bathroom.  It was just a total freak thing, maybe a pocket of wind in his stomach.  I threw some towels over it and we went back to sleep.  But the next day it was quite a chore cleaning up the dried vomit.  Another pain in the butt moment.

Also, Adam has developed a nasty rash around the catheter site.  I had been putting on an antibiotic ointment to prevent infection, but I think I had applied it for way too long.  Since the site is covered with a waterproof covering, I think a yeast infection developed.  Yucky, red, crusty, bumpy rash.  I would post a photo, but really it's quite gross.  We stopped using the waterproof covering, and he just has some gauze on top of the entry site with a little micropore tape.  We've also been using my friend's homemade ointment, and it's really clearing up nicely.  Just another adventure in Antineoplaston Land.

The kids all seem to be going through a massive pain-in-the-butt phase right now. Finlay is two, so no further explanation is really necessary, but he's really ramped it up the past week.  Ali and Calum fight... all... day... long.  It's absolutely exhausting.  I'm constantly sending one upstairs so they can be on different floors.  Prayers that these two primadonnas can sort themselves out would be helpful!  Really, it's like having Mariah Carey and J Lo, both on their periods and three days into a crash diet.
